Semester 1 Abstracts:

January 2018 : Wise Education (SDG 4)

From indoctrinated to flourishing Education

Call for Papers:

"A great inner revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and, further, will enable a change in the destiny of all humankind."
Daisaku Ikeda, The Human Revolution
It is evident that the slightest scrutiny of our education systems will reveal their deadly shortcomings, and that the gap between the system, the curricula and teachers from one side and the students from the other side is widening every day.
As such and in our effort to create wisdom leaders, we organize this conference in order to rethink our education systems entirely so that they can produce future wisdom leaders who will contribute to the well-being of their communities and the flourishing of all Humanity.
In fact, the role of Education should evolve to the empowerment of individuals to attain their fullest potentials in order to create value in their own lives and in their communities, and thereby, attain happiness and contribute to the betterment of human society.
It’s enough to remind ourselves that one of the most shameful fruits of our Education System has been nuclear weapons. Therefore, we believe that UNESCO as the UN responsible institution for Education should make sure that all Systems of Education around the world teach and endorse global values of peace, sustainability, equality and mutual respect.
We need to shift from an increasingly knowledge-and-information based society to a wisdom-based society. The role of education should shift then to the stimulation and development of wisdom within learners. And as they ascend the different educational stages, they climb accordingly in the Wisdom Maturity Model.
In this way, Wise Education will be the right path for students to take responsibility for their own life and achieve happiness, while positively influencing their immediate environment and community, and if possible contribute to the well-being and peace of all Humanity. Because we believe that Global Peace relies mainly on a self-directed transformation within the life of the individual, rather than on societal or structural reforms alone.
Such transformation could only be achieved through Wise Education.
